Porsche unveils the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS offers maximum driving pleasure with its racing DNA, mid-positioned engine producing 500 PS, new aerodynamics and optimized chassis.

Porsche is making the world premiere of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, the new flagship model in the 718 model series, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The high-revving 500 PS engine at the heart of the car redefines the term 'driving pleasure'. The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS has been designed in a very impressive way, without compromising on quality, with its lightweight structure, extremely agile chassis, sophisticated aerodynamics and unique sound. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS offers a ride that meets the performance expectations at the highest level, both on narrow, winding mountain roads and on racetracks.

Even stronger now

The six-cylinder engine offered in the 911 GT3 Cup race car is the most important part of the sports car designed for maximum driving pleasure. Engine speed goes up to 9,000 rpm. It reaches 465 NM torque at 6,000 rpm. Compared to the 718 Cayman GT4, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS produces an extra 80 PS of power, achieving a weight-to-power ratio of 2.83 kg/PS.

Goes from zero to 100 in 3.4 seconds

The sporty low-ratio PDK gives this mid-engined sports car incredible acceleration. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds (GT4 with PDK: 3.9 seconds) and reaches a top speed of 315 km/h (GT4 with PDK: 302 km/h) in seventh gear . The usual lightweight construction in the RS model stands out as one of the defining elements of the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS design. The two-seater, as defined by the DIN standard, weighs just 1,415 kg with a full fuel tank and driverless, and is 35 kg lighter than a 718 GT4 equipped with PDK. Weight is reduced thanks to the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in components such as the hood and front wings. In addition to lightweight carpets, the reduction of insulation material also contributes to weight reduction. The rear glass is made of a lighter material. Lightweight door panels with woven pull-tabs and mesh in the storage compartments eliminate every unnecessary gram.

From racing cars to everyday use

The new fixed rear wing, swan neck attachment and aluminum wing supports are among the distinguishing elements of the exterior design. Inspired by the Porsche 911 RSR GT racing car, this highly efficient wing was first used in a Porsche production car with the 911 GT3. Taken together with the GT4 RS, a 30mm lower ride height compared to the 718 Cayman, eye-catching vents on the front fenders, aerodynamically optimized underbody panels connected to the rear diffuser, a multi-adjustable front diffuser and a new front spoiler with side blades that conduct air to the environment. It produces about 25 percent more downforce than the GT4 in Performance mode, which is designed for use on racetracks.

Changes to the chassis also contribute to higher performance of the car. Ball joints firmly connect the chassis to the body for more precise and direct handling. The adjustable, track-ready chassis features an RS-specific shock absorber setup, as well as modified spring and anti-roll bar ratios.

The car is scheduled to go on sale worldwide in December. It is also available with the optional Weissach package to further enhance the GT4 RS aerodynamics. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport racing version will also premiere in Los Angeles and will take part in various national and international races from 2022.
