MINI debuted its all-electric MINI Vision Urbanaut concept at #NEXTGen 2020, offering a groundbreaking new vision of interior space in the automotive world.
MINI Vision Urbanaut, which aims to provide the comfort of home to its passengers in the car and combines the large living space it offers with an environmentalist approach, met with car lovers as one of the biggest surprises of #NEXTGen 2020.
Designed for a wide variety of usage scenarios, the MINI Vision Urbanaut has three different MINI modes named "Chill", "Wanderlust" and "Vibe". While the "Chill" mode focuses on breathing and getting away from the stress of everyday life, the "Wanderlust" brings the passion for travel and the "Vibe" brings good time to the center of the MINI Vision Urbanaut. These unique experiences are combined with sustainable materials and an all-electric motor.
More Different Space Usage
The MINI Vision Urbanaut brings to life an interior vision that can be considered quite extraordinary for a car with a completely innovative design language. With a total length of 4.46 meters, the MINI Vision Urbanaut offers an interior that can be used in various ways and also provides ease of movement. For this, the designers created a wide interior experience using home furnishings, wooden models and augmented reality before developing the exterior.
While the interior of the MINI Vision Urbanaut provides the ideal setting for a journey, after reaching the chosen destination, it can be transformed into a pleasant living room with just a few simple touches. There is no other door on the driver's side or front passenger side of the MINI Vision Urbanaut, where passengers enter the cabin through a large sliding door on the side of the car.
The highly flexible four-seat arrangement forms the basis for the spacious interior of the MINI Vision Urbanaut. The front seats are designed to rotate back, while the backrests can be moved manually for the large seat surface in the rear. When the car is stationary, the dashboard lowers and the driver's space becomes a comfortable sofa. In addition, when the car is stopped, the windshield can be folded up to give the feeling of sitting on the balcony. The dimly lit and illuminated area at the rear of the cabin creates a quieter and comfortable environment, allowing you to get away from the fatigue of the day in a quiet corner.
Analog Love, Digital Connection
Acting on the principle of simplifying things as much as possible, the designers eliminate conventional controls such as switches or buttons with intuitive user interface solutions, providing a fully compatible connection to electronic systems and creating a minimalist and comfortable interior. One of the three MINI modes is activated when the MINI Token, which forms the most important part of the MINI Vision Urbanaut experience world, is placed in one of three different slots on the table in the middle of the car. The MINI Token can be programmed to configure different scenarios that users will prefer, such as fragrances and ambient lighting.
MINI Spirit in a New Form
The design of the MINI Vision Urbanaut adds a new meaning to the "Different Area Usage" approach. The almost smooth surface and elaborately designed stylistic ornaments give the MINI Vision Urbanaut a modern look. The wheels are located on the outer corners of the body with short overhangs that complement the car's compact and agile appearance.
The front of the MINI Vision Urbanaut also represents the evolution of MINI design that combines the past and the future. While the headlights placed under a corrugated aluminum structure are visible only when turned on, they can create different graphics thanks to the multicolored dynamic matrix designs. In this way, it creates a new form of communication between the car and the outside world that will suit every fashion.
Since the MINI Vision Urbanaut does not have an internal combustion engine that requires cooling, its grille acts as a smart panel for autonomous driving. Like the headlights, the multicolored dynamic matrix lights behind the machined aluminum covers can present different looks in various driving modes and MINI moments.
The MINI Vision Urbanaut also draws attention with its turquoise blue Ocean Wave colored wheels, which evoke the beach and sea. The Union Jack profile of the wheels is a nod to the car's British heritage, while their transparent and internally lit appearance changes according to the selected MINI mode.
Sustainable Vision
Designed with the responsible use of resources in mind, the MINI Vision Urbanaut not only reduces the number of components in exterior and interior design, but also saves material by activating dual functions such as dashboard/sofa. MINI Vision Urbanaut uses sustainable materials such as knitted fabric instead of leather and chrome to increase comfort and quality in the interior, and cork is used in the steering wheel and floor sections of the MINI Vision Urbanaut.
