Skoda will take another step into its electric era with the new zero-emission SUV model Enyaq, which it plans to introduce by the end of this year. Enyaq, which is preparing to become a member of the iV sub-brand with the plug-in hybrid versions of the electric city car Citigo e and Octavia and Superb, will be the first Skoda model based on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform.
The word "Enyaq" was derived from the name "Enya", which means Irish "source of life". The letter “Q” at the end was added to be compatible with other SUV models of Sokda, Kamiq, Karoq and Kodiaq.
There is no information yet about the details of the 2020 Skoda Enyaq. However, the model is expected to bear traces from the Vision iV concept introduced last year in design. The car, which is expected to have the same power unit as the Volkswagen ID.4, is likely to offer two electric motors producing a total of 302 horsepower, three different lithium-ion battery options and a driving range of up to 500 km.
Preparing to invest 2 billion euros in new technologies, including electric vehicle technologies, Skoda will launch at least 10 electric vehicles by the end of 2022. By 2025, the Czech manufacturer aims to have 25 percent of all electric and plug-in hybrid models in total sales.
