BMW's plug-in-hybrid car i8's bounty hunter engine won the Best Hybrid Engine Motor category at the Engine of the Year Awards for the fifth consecutive year.

Winning the ert Engine of the Year olan award in  its category for the fifth time in a row, i8 competed in the u Best Hybrid Powertrain k category this year.

As a result of the polls, a big point difference arose, and the power unit of the BMW i8 received 233 points, making the difference between 138 points from its second-place opponent.

The BMW i8 sheds light on the future of the plug-in hybrid family with its technologies. With a total of 10 plug-in hybrid models by the end of 2019, BMW aims to offer its drivers a wider selection range than its competitors.

Sports car performance combined with the fuel economy of a compact car

The BMW i8 combines sports car performance with the fuel economy of a compact car. The three-cylinder internal combustion engine delivers 170 kW/231 hp to the rear wheels. With its electric motor, which is increased to 105 kW/143 hp, it takes its power from the lithium-ion battery (which can be recharged from a conventional household outlet) and sends its power to the front axle. The hybrid system, developed and manufactured by the BMW Group for the BMW i8, offers a fully electric range of up to 55 km for the BMW i8.

From 0 to 100 kilometers in 4.4 seconds

In the BMW i8, where two engines work, gasoline and electric, the power produced by the petrol engine is transferred to the rear wheels. Thanks to the hybrid system that works together with the electric motor in the front axle, the i8 is able to drive in 4-wheel drive as well as delivering the most efficient performance possible. The i8 Coupe is available in just 4.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km with BMW's characteristic driving pleasure.

This year's 21st Engineers of the Year award, which was formed by the participation of 70 automotive journalists from 31 countries, selected the best engines in various categories. BMW I8, which won the genel Best New Engine u and other general classification awards in its first year on the market, won the Engine of the Year award for the 5th time in a row.
