Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai has announced that it will produce its own chips in order to reduce the effects of the global chip crisis that has been going on since the beginning of the year.

Explaining that the worst times in the chip crisis are over, the COO of the company, Jose Munoz, stated that August and September were difficult for Hyundai due to the problems in chip supply.

Noting that they are aware of the fact that chip manufacturers are working with all their strength to solve the crisis, Munoz said, "However, we want to develop chips within our own structure, despite the reoccurrence of the crisis in question in the coming years. Only with this method we can reduce our dependence on chip manufacturers. This is a job that takes a lot of money and time, we are working on it." said.

Along with Hyundai, Toyota and Tesla, it stands out as one of the rare brands that increased its global sales during the chip crisis.

Munoz added that Hyundai has decided not to cut orders during the pandemic after seeing Asian markets recover stronger than expected.

On the other hand, noting that Hyundai is on the way to produce electric cars in the USA in 2022, Munoz said that they are considering both improving the existing factory in Alabama and increasing its production capacity.

TO MANUFACTURE WITH DAIMLER STELLANTIS

Other than Hyundai, many manufacturers are looking for ways to reduce the effects of the chip crisis.

German automotive manufacturer Daimler, which has supplied the batteries in its electric cars from Asia to date, has also taken action to supply chips from Europe.

It was announced that Daimler, which acquired a 33 percent stake in the battery manufacturer Automotive Cells Company (ACC), founded in partnership with Stellantis and Total in 2020, had sacrificed $ 1.2 billion for ACC.
