U.S. President Joe Biden signed a decree that stipulates that 50 percent of passenger cars and light trucks that will be sold in the country by 2030 will be zero-emissions.

Biden, in his speech before the signing, said that the USA is in competition with China and many other countries.

Stating that the future of the automobile industry is electric, Biden said that China is already leading the race as one of the fastest growing electric vehicle markets in the world.

Biden stated that the most important part of electric vehicles is batteries, and 80 percent of battery production capacity is located in China.

Emphasizing that electric vehicle and battery production should also be made in the USA, Biden said, "There is no reason why we should not take back the leadership and be a leader again."

STEERING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Describing the new steps to be taken towards clean energy vehicles, Biden said that the Trump administration will begin the process of changing vehicle emissions and efficiency standards.

Biden said that by 2030, 50 percent of all vehicles to be sold in the United States are aimed to be electric.

"This is important, but we must continue to invest in our people and production capacity to unlock all potential," said Biden.

Biden, who signed the said decree after his speech, then got behind the wheel of one of the electric vehicles and toured the White House.
