Having Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, Bugatti Chiron exceeded 490,484 km/h and became the first car in the world to exceed this limit.
In record-breaking driving by Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace, MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires have a 'BG' mark indicating that they can only be used in Bugatti and the use of tires on the road is completely legal. The only difference is that the tires used in Chiron, the top-runner, are reinforced by the 5,300 g force that the outer rim has to withstand at very high speeds.

For this unusual vehicle, Michelin and Bugatti engineers collaborated in the joint development of tires and chassis. Thanks to the simultaneous development of tires using the best production techniques, Bugatti Chiron's tire performance has reached optimum levels.
During the development of the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires designed specifically for the Bugatti Chiron, Michelin used the Technology Center in Ladoux, France and its plant in Charlotte, USA. In these facilities, special machines were run to carry out the most extreme tests on tires. To test the tires at extreme speeds accessible to the Bugatti Chiron, Michelin used a test machine designed to test tires fitted to the Space Shuttle and capable of testing up to 510 km/h.
